About the Author
The husband and wife team Nancy and Randall Faber are internationally known as authors of the Piano Adventures teaching method and over two hundred publications for the piano. They recently founded the Faber Piano Institute in Ann Arbor, MI, where they live with their daughter Vivian. Nancy Faber, who was named "Distinguished Composer of the Year" by the Music Teachers National Association, enjoys a busy schedule of commissions for the concert stage in addition to her educational composing. Recent commissions include "The Snow Queen" for narrator and orchestra, "The Picture My Imagination Has Painted" for Flute Quartet and Piano, and "Trio for Flute, Saxophone and Piano". Her pieces have been heard on U.S. public radio and network television. She studied composition with Joan Tower, William Albright, and British composer Nicholas Maw; piano studies were at the Eastman School and Michigan State University. Randall Faber has toured Korea, Taiwan, Canada and the United Kingdom. He was master teacher for both the World Conference on Piano Pedagogy and the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy. He gave recitals in St. Louis, Ann Arbor, as Convention Artist for the North Dakota Music Teachers, and performed as Visiting Artist at the University of Michigan, University of Southern Mississippi, Saginaw State University, and numerous universities throughout South Korea. He was featured clinician for the Nebraska Music Teachers, the Florida Music Teachers and the Pennsylvania Music Teachers Convention, and recently presented his research at the 9th International Conference on Motivation in Lisbon, Portugal. Dr. Faber holds three degrees from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University. The Fabers advocate piano study not only for personal expression and performance success, but also as a vehicle for the student's creative and cognitive development. Their philosophy is reflected in their writing, their public appearances, and in their own teaching.

Good foundation for students.

The Faber Piano Adventures are a good foundation for students, helping reinforce the basics in technique, performance, theory and musicianship. The lesson book works in conjunction with theory, technique and performance books, but be aware that you are buying the same editions. I've had it happen before when I have bought the 2nd edition of the lesson book, but not theory and therefore had the corresponding pages not match up. Music is printed in relatively big print which is great for student and teacher! Not always the most challenging method book if you have fast learners with talent and ability.

Our daughter recently switched to the Piano Adventures series after two years in Alfred. Definitely a good move. Songs are much more interesting and varied, but instruction is just as clear.

Info overkill but great book nevertheless

I heard the author speak a few years ago and was bowled over by all the information he covered. I concluded he was either a phenomenal salesman or he was truly an exceptional student of the market. i bought this book as well as one of his other two(?). I knew that if i truly wanted to digest what he presented I had to be committed to studying his techniques. Frustration reigned and interruptions only served to hamper my understanding. Fianlly, after losing countless dollars on sham techniques I learned at seminars and reading books by others I was determined to give the author a serious try. I have never regretted this decision. While nothing is perfect in the investment business I can certainly represent that the author's ideas are fresh, innovative, original and and have enhanced by trading performance markedly. Sure I still have losers and nothing is infallible but his techniques are the closest I have come to providing me with the knowledge and game plan to be a successful trader. Yes, I am making money, lots of it. No, I am not going to share what of his many tools have I found to be the most helpful. That is your job and if for no other reason, it is because some of the methods I may have found to be not to my liking may very well be suited to you and trading psyche. In any case, welcome to the world of a one of a kind trading mind. The author is special and so are his indicators.

This book is exceptional for traders

I am here at the IFTA conference and the market trading models on Bloomberg are the talk of the seminar. These indicators are described in detail in this book as well as the author's other two books. These are not the typical tupe of trading tools that most all traders use and trade unsuccessfully. If our trading desk and portfolio managers had their preference they wish that nobody would use these trading models. That appears not to be the case since everyone seems to be using them. Since the techniques are designed to operate totally the opposite to all other trading devices they become a discipline that contols one's emeotiuons when oen trades. In that regard alone these methods are exceptional.

I recommend strongly this book as well as the author's other two books.

Worth it for chapter #1

TD suppy and demand lines. If I only knew before the rules for trendlines I would have save a lot of time and wasted effort. I can't comment on this book past chapter #1 as I've not gone any further. However, this book is worth the purchase many times over just for the proper explaination of trendlines. As this book was recommended to me for the first 2 chapters, I will also recomend it if only for the first. Before I could look at the same chart of a currency pair and "see" different trend lines. Oh, I think that is one. But now I will look at the same chart and see the same trendlines every time. This goes a long way to making trading a repeatable, measurable proccess... essential to success.

The stretching part was basic but good. The recipes were excellent and kosher, nonetheless! This solid book is a great way to approach fitness in a pragmatic way. I recommend Krav Maga, the Israeli defense Force's self defense technique as well.

American Fitness Strategy?

I recently retired from the American military after 24 years and have seen many fitness schemes come and go. Ten years ago I was faced with a choice between getting in shape or leaving the military. I had reached a point in my career where I rarely worked 'in the field' and was becoming a pear shaped desk-jockey. The ideas presented in this book (while apparently based on Israeli military research) are not macho Special Forces and are not based on any gimmick. This is simple, self paced, aerobic exercise and diet suggestions based on commonly known principles. Surprisingly simple and SURPRISINGLY effective. In my opinion, this is the fitness solution that most people are looking for today. I wish this would become the American Fitness Strategy.

A timeless book of fitness.

I first read this book in 1982, over 25 years ago. I was recovering from back surgery and unable to run. So to get in shape I began the technique described in the book. When I could run again, I ran my first 10K run. I finished in 36 minutes, even though I had done no other aerobic activity for almost 10 months, and had never run a 10K before in my life. Preparing to undergo shoulder surgery now, I picked up a copy of the book again. This will once again be my method of recovery. Probably one of the best and most overlooked fitness books out there. Of the dozens of fitness books on my shelf this is one that really delivers. I wish it were still in publication.

I began a career in banking in the early 1980s and have been able to maintain a front-row seat while watching the financial crises shift from agriculture to housing to college student loans. In the past five years in banking, in particular, I have seen steady increases in the sheer number of student loans and in the total amount of college debt.
The bank I work for is not a direct student loan lender, in either federal or private student loans. It is likely to encounter student and parent loans when consumers are applying for other types of loans, such as car or house loans, and their college loans are verified on a credit report and included in a repayment ratio analysis. Whenever that situation occurs, I often ask general financial questions about their existing college loans, such as loan amounts, interest rates, whether the interest rates are fixed or variable, and the maturity dates. Very few borrowers know the answers to those basic loan questions. They typically know a monthly payment amount, but only if the loan is already in repayment mode. There are also people who do not know that they have college debt until it is verified on a credit report under their Social Security number; they do not realize that their financial aid awards were actually neatly packaged loans and do not remember signing or accepting any loan offers.
The lack of basic understanding and the overall confusion that students have regarding their own college debt is discouraging, especially considering that paying for a college degree could be the second-largest investment they will make in their lifetime, after their house. I interviewed college financial aid counselors and learned that students are basically being left alone to figure out a confusing financial aid process and there is very little loan counseling required for students to attend.  I wrote this book to help students and families prepare financially for college and be able to protect their financial independence along the way.

This will be a wonderful resource to anyone considering a government or private student loan. This well written analysis of financial aid is way over due. Finally, someone applies debt ratios to expected monthly income -- a tool that the real estate mortgage loan brokerage industry has used for years. Carol Jensen provides both consumers and lenders the student loan equivalent of the "three Cs" for student loans: Character, Collateral, and Credit. Well done!
