Practical Approach to Fitness the Israeli Defense Force Way

For those of us without extensive means or access to a gym, it can be daunting to get one's self in shape. Amos Bar-Khama proposes a simple way of walking towards fitness. His approach slowly has one increase the load being borne, the distance being walked, and the intensity of the walk. It's a very sound way of exercising.
The stretching part was basic but good. The recipes were excellent and kosher, nonetheless! This solid book is a great way to approach fitness in a pragmatic way. I recommend Krav Maga, the Israeli defense Force's self defense technique as well.
I highly recommend this excellent fitness book.

American Fitness Strategy?

I recently retired from the American military after 24 years and have seen many fitness schemes come and go. Ten years ago I was faced with a choice between getting in shape or leaving the military. I had reached a point in my career where I rarely worked 'in the field' and was becoming a pear shaped desk-jockey. The ideas presented in this book (while apparently based on Israeli military research) are not macho Special Forces and are not based on any gimmick. This is simple, self paced, aerobic exercise and diet suggestions based on commonly known principles. Surprisingly simple and SURPRISINGLY effective. In my opinion, this is the fitness solution that most people are looking for today. I wish this would become the American Fitness Strategy.

A timeless book of fitness.

I first read this book in 1982, over 25 years ago. I was recovering from back surgery and unable to run. So to get in shape I began the technique described in the book. When I could run again, I ran my first 10K run. I finished in 36 minutes, even though I had done no other aerobic activity for almost 10 months, and had never run a 10K before in my life. Preparing to undergo shoulder surgery now, I picked up a copy of the book again. This will once again be my method of recovery. Probably one of the best and most overlooked fitness books out there. Of the dozens of fitness books on my shelf this is one that really delivers. I wish it were still in publication.
